Fresh Caviar Far Too Good Friday, 22nd January 2010
She may have beaten just four rivals but exciting filly Black Caviar created history when winning tonight's Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
The filly, prepared by Peter Moody, was big in condition but proved classes above her rivals and became the first filly to win the race since its inception in 1988.
Sitting second outside seasoned sprinter Here De Angels, the filly cruised to the lead and put the race beyond doubt on the home bend.
Jockey Luke Nolen shook her up in the straight before going on to score by over two lengths.
The filly hasn't raced since winning the Danehill Stakes last September when injury forced her to a lengthy spell.
That was Moody's biggest concern, knowing the big filly had put on a lot of weight and was well off her best, but those fears were allayed a long way from home as she never looked in danger.
“It's always a big relief to see them return,” Moody said. “Until you get them back to the track you're never 100 per cent sure.
“The exciting thing about it is the level of improvement in her which augers well for the future.”
The win was an ideal return for Black Caviar keeping her perfect record intact while providing a nice platform to tackler stronger races further into the autumn.
Moody will now target the Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley next month before perhaps the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap in March.
But he hasn't ruled out taking on some of the world's best in Dubai in the autumn as well.
